Razer Kaira Pro Review

The Razer Kaira Pro is a headset that was made specifically for the Xbox Series X/S as well as PC. They’re what I consider a “mid-tier” gaming headset, and they offer great sound performance as well as comfort.

Let me breakdown my way of thinking when it comes to categorizing gaming headsets into “tiers.”

Lower-Tier: Priced under $100 (Including Tax)

Mid-Tier: Priced $100-$220 (Including Tax)

High-Tier: Priced over $225

Key Features

Wireless: the headset is completely wireless. Not even a usb “dongle” is needed for consoles. (Can be used on PC with a USB dongle.)

Bluetooth Enabled: You can pair this headset with any Bluetooth capable device. Cell phones / Tablets etc…

Xbox App: Has a dedicated app you can download on your Xbox, so can adjust the audio/mic settings to your liking.

Set-Up

When I first got the Kaira Pro’s I didn’t realize that I NEEDED a Windows computer for the initial setup process. This was a problem because I didn’t have one…or so I thought. I was able to dig up an old working laptop that was good enough to get the firmware updated on these bad boys, so we could then get down to business. JUST A HEADS UP ON THAT!!!

After we got the headset up and running the latest firmware, we could then pair it to the Xbox Series X the same way you would pair a controller. It’s all very seamless and works great.

The Xbox App is pretty basic. It lets you adjust and customize any of the sound/mic levels could ever want to adjust. The Bass on these hit pretty hard, and I’m admittedly a “Bass Head” , but it’s nice that stuff like that can be adjusted to your liking.

After it was set up to the way we liked it, it was time to start GAMING!

Gaming Impressions

To put it simply…the sound was amazing. It was better than my (workhorse) 2nd Gen Astro A50’s. I mainly play shooters or RPG’s, and the sounds of the environment were spot on. I could hear the location of enemy footsteps around me. Even hear the crackling of the flames of a burning car in my right ear cup as a walked by it. These headphones give you some next level immersion that I didn’t even think was possible.

The comfort on these are superb as well. The memory foam they use in the headband and ear cups is CRAZY soft! It’s also wrapped in the “mesh-ish” light weight soft material. It doesn’t warm my ears at all, which is one of my most hated things about headphones. I can leave these on for a couple of hours and not have any comfort issues.

The Not So Good

With as many positives there are about these headphones, there are some negatives.

There is an issue with “crackling” here and there. I will say that I’ve experienced this with other headsets and some are saying it’s more of an Xbox Controller / Series X (interference) issue than it is the actual headset. The crackling is usually short live when it does occur, but it eventually fixes itself without you having to do anything.

The microphone is also very sensitive. There are ways to improve it, but it doesn’t change the fact that it picks up everything in the room. If you live in a noisy environment and like to use the microphone, it might be better to look elsewhere. However, it does provide the best sounding voice quality of any mic I’ve heard, so it’s kind of a “give/take” kind of thing.

Conclusion

Overall, I’d say this headset is a big time YES if you’re looking into purchasing it. The only REAL downside is it having a super sensitive microphone that tends to pick up a lot of the noise around you. Most people I know game by themselves in a room, so if really isn’t an issue.

The versatility to use Bluetooth at the same time as gaming is a perfect blend of usefulness and convenience. Definitely check these out if you’re able to find them on sale, because in my opinion they’re worth it at full price.
