Baseball is BACK!
America’s Favorite Pastime
I’m just going to come out of the gate and state that baseball has to be one of the best sports ever created. There’s something about the crack of the bat, and the pop of the glove. Can’t forget about the smell of hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, and beer in the stands. It honestly doesn’t get any better. Who hasn’t pretended to be Benny “The Jet” running away from the beast? I know for a fact you’ve said “You’re killing me smalls!!” at least once in your life. You love baseball, even though you might not know it yet.
Baseball is such a cerebral game too. There are so many games within the game. I can never understand why people say it’s boring to watch. I just take it as they’re not smart enough to see the beauty in it, and that’s okay. It’s not for everyone.
The COVID Curveball
After a long winter, we were so hyped coming into the season. March got here, and Spring Training started up again. We got to watch a few spring training games on TV, and all was right in the world again. Baseball was back baby!!!
And then it wasn’t. They had to delay the start of the season due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The rest of the spring and summer has been such a drag. You could always count on baseball to be on television if nothing else sparked your interest. At the end of the day, baseball is just a game, and many people have suffered through terrible things during this pandemic. The delay of the season has been nothing compared to what others have gone through. The pandemic isn’t over yet, just make sure to keep taking care of yourselves and making wise decisions.
Back to our regularly scheduled program
After months of delay due to COVID, today kicks off the start of the 2020 Major League Baseball season! The best team in the league (New York Yankees) will be opening up their season tonight against the Washington Nationals. The Yankees were heavy favorites coming into the season due to them landing All-Star pitcher Gerrit Cole in the off-season.
SPOILER ALERT: The Yankees are going to win the World Series this year. Yeah, I said it! Then all the haters are going to come out and want to put an asterisk by their title. Speaking of asterisks….
Cheating Astros (Houston Asterisks)
Let’s be real, no team has gotten luckier than the Houston Astros. They were coming into this season HOT! Players from every team were throwing them under the bus for the trashcan cheating scandal they were a part of. The blood was boiling around the league. The Astros manager was already pro-actively asking for harsh punishments if any retaliation was taken against his players. They knew what was coming, and they were going to deserve every bit of it. Now, I don’t know what’s going to happen. It seems like things have calmed down quite a bit, but you never know once you get between those lines and the competitive juices start flowing again.
Look, the Astros have some great players and personalities on their team. It’s hard not to like them as individuals. They genuinely seem like good guys, but their fans make them so unbearable. (LOL) I don’t know what it is. It’s like they want to be the “heel”. They want to be the nWo so bad. I guess they basically just want to be the Yankees, but they’re not.
Play Ball!
The game might look a little different when your watching it on TV. Just pretend like your team is playing against the Miami Marlins during any other regular season. It’s really going to look no different than that. (LOL)
MLB even released a Gameday App that will let you boo and cheer from your home. The cheers and boos get sent to the audio guy at the stadium who will base the automated crowd volume on the amount of boos and cheers he gets! That’s crazy!
Seriously though, baseball is back! Make some hot dogs, pop some popcorn, prepare some nachos, and pour some beers. We don’t know how long we’ll have it for, so lets enjoy it while it’s here.
